Optimisation Guide
Getting a Sneaks NFT is just the beginning of your journey.
To get more out
of it, you need to upgrade your Sneaks, put in Gems and put some Sneaks in Shelve. It may be a lot of
details to do at first, so jump in and learn how to do it step-by-step.
Optimise Your Sneaks
Get higher Quality ones
Yes, it's that simple! ;-)
As mentioned in the Sneaks Guide, better quality Sneaks offer more Base Stats, which yields more Energy and have more Durability, which allows to run for longer.
You can try to buy Uncommon/Rare/Epic/Legendary ones or hunt them from Lootboxes. Unfortunately, we've yet to see something else than Common and Uncommon on the market.
Level-up Sneaks
It makes little to no sense to use low level Sneaks, so if you can spare some KCAL and FITFI, the best option is to level them up to max level of 30 instantly.
You will need to get some KCAL and FITFI, but you will be able to use instantly maxed out (level wise) Sneaks, which will yield multiples compared to basic ones: as an example, running with Common Level 1 Sneaks yields around 0.12 KCAL per 1 Energy, while the same Sneaks at Level 30 yield 0.42 KCAL per 1 Energy.
Having leveled-up Sneaks lets you get higher KCAL yields, so it is overall worth to do as soon as possible. Below you can find a breakdown of the cost to upgrade Common quality Sneaks from Level 1 to 30. Please note that KCAL values are now dynamic and depend on KCAL market price, the example shows pricing for KCAL cost around 2$.
Sneak | KCAL to lvl | FITFI to lvl | Sneak | KCAL to lvl | FITFI to lvl |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Level 1 | 0 | 0 | Level 16 | ~2,8 | 17,3 |

Use Gems
Gems are one of the most important tool in StepApp, so you should get proper Gems as soon as possible. Gems can be found inside the in-game lootboxes (Chests) or bought directly from Marketplace.
To be able to install a Gem in Sneak, you need to open up a socket first: this action costs 5 KCAL in Common Sneaks per socket, which translates into 20 KCAL in total for 4 sockets. The sockets can be opened with the upgrade of Sneaks level: each one is available after level 15, then next one after 20, another after 25 and final after 30.
There are following types of Gems:
- Alexandrite: affects the Activity Stat, allowing you to earn more KCAL.
- Ruby: affects the Resistance Stat, allowing you to pay less for repairing Sneaks.
- Limonite: affects the Luck Stat, allowing you to get more and better (higher level) Chests for each run.
- Sapphire: affects the Balance Stat, so you can get more KCAL for Burning your Sneaks.
- Diamond: a special Gem that has 2 random stats on it. Will be most sought after at the endgame Sneak setup.
Below you can find approximated examples of how Activity translates to KCAL earned per 1 Energy:
Activity Stat | KCAL per 1 Energy |
---|---|
~15 Activity | ~0.2 KCAL |
~120 Activity | ~0.4 KCAL |
~170 Activity | ~0.5 KCAL |
~250 Activity | ~0.6 KCAL |
~350 Activity | ~0.7 KCAL |
~450 Activity | ~0.75 KCAL |
~530 Activity | ~0.8 KCAL |
~610 Activity | ~0.85 KCAL |
~730 Activity | ~0.9 KCAL |
~920 Activity | ~1 KCAL |
~1500 Activity | ~1.1 KCAL |
~1500 Activity | ~1.2 KCAL |
Upgrade Gems
Gems can be upgraded have increased stats: to upgrade a gem, you need to merge at least 2 gems of lower level and a specified amount of KCAL. You can merge up to 5 gems to get 100% merging change, merging 2 gems has 60% of success chance. Please keep in mind that you can only sell and buy level 2 and upwards on the Marketplace.
Available GEM levels
Gem Level | Stats change |
---|---|
Level 1 | +10 |
Level 2 | +60 |
Level 3 | +120 |
Level 4 | +240 |
Level 5 | +480 |
Level 6 | +960 |
Gem limitations in relation to Sneak quality
One of the changes made after StepApp launched was a limitation with gems usage when it comes to the Sneak qualities: Common sneaks can utilize only gems up to level 2, Uncommon sneaks only gems up to level 4 and the Rares and up can have any gem level applied.
This means that the ideal scenario for Common sneaks is to use level 2 diamonds, preferably with Activity + Resistance stats, which acts similarly to a level 3 gem, having +120 stats as level 2 Diamond. Same goes for Uncommon shoes: having level 4 Diamon with Activity + Resistance would be the best option available and recommended choice.
Shelve Sneaks
Get more Energy for your Account
If you want to have more Energy for you account, you can use a feature call Shelving: by putting a Sneak on a Shelf, you block them from being used in the future (they are still on your account), but the Base Stats (not the upgraded/gemmed Stats) are added to your Account and allow you to get more Base Energy while running..
To put Sneakers on Shelf, you will have to get more of them first, of course. You can try to hunt them from Lootboxes, buy from the Marketplace or go ahead and Mint one.
Additionally, Shelving Sneaks grants you Bonus Energy, which is a one-time use energy that is available after you run out of your main Energy available. Bonus Energy is visible as Blue value in the Energy status box. More about Bonus Energy can be found in Sneaks Guide.
The details on how much Energy will be available in relation to Base Stats can be found in Sneaks Guide, under Energy section. Please keep in mind that the Base Stats are calculated as follows: Base Stats of put on Sneaks and Base Stats of all Sneaks put on the Shelf.
Mint Sneaks
Create new Sneaks from two you currently have
Minting is a costly process to produce a new "child" Sneaks by sacrificing Stats of two "parents" Sneaks. This comes as a cost (KCAL) and also lowers the stats on your "parent" Sneaks: each Mint lowers the "parent" Sneaks Stats by -15%. The produced "child" Sneaks are unaffected and come as Shoebox, but their Base Stats are defined by the stats of their "parents".
More details about Minting proess can be found in Minting Guide.
